St. Louis, MO - The Golf Foundation of Missouri has created the Larry L. Deskins, Sr. Scholarship (the Scholarship) to provide financial assistance for secondary education to graduating high school seniors that have attended Golf Foundation of Missouri summer camps.
The late Larry L. Deskins, Sr. was an active Board member of the Golf Foundation of Missouri and believed in its mission of teaching life skills to underprivileged youth through the game of golf.
“The Scholarship was created to honor Larry and recognize the impact he had on the lives of those around him. He believed in giving back to the community, developing young minds, and that education and hard work are keys to success. He mentored and inspired young African American men and women on the importance of these principles and helped them to expand their minds and pursue their dreams,” said Patricia Hernandez, Chairperson of the Larry L. Deskins, Sr. Scholarship Fund Committee.
All children attend Life Skills classes with topics such as sportsmanship, healthy living, and building self-esteem.
Thanks to a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Mich., the Scholarship can assist eligible students with the cost of attending an accredited college or university, junior college, trade or vocational school upon graduation from high school. The Golf Foundation of Missouri is grateful to W.K. Kellogg Foundation for their commitment to priority places where there are high concentrations of poverty and where children face significant barriers to success.
